Melexis and Leapers Semiconductor Collaborate to Advance SiC Power Modules with Integrated RC Snubber Technology

Melexis is pleased to announce that Leapers Semiconductor, a global leader in advanced power semiconductor module manufacturing, has integrated the Melexis MLX91299 silicon-based RC snubber into its next-generation power modules. This collaboration highlights how close cooperation between module manufacturers and semiconductor specialists can translate innovation into practical, system-level benefits for automotive and energy management applications.
Leapers’ power modules are widely used in demanding environments such as electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and industrial power conversion. As market requirements for higher efficiency, increased power density, and improved reliability continue to rise, these modules are increasingly based on silicon carbide (SiC) power devices operating at higher switching frequencies and voltages. Fully leveraging the advantages of SiC, however, requires precise control of voltage overshoot, ringing, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the module level. If left unmanaged, these effects can limit overall module performance.
To address these challenges, Leapers selected the Melexis MLX91299 silicon-based RC snubber for direct integration inside the power module. Unlike conventional external, discrete RC snubber solutions, the MLX91299 integrates both resistance and capacitance into a single silicon die. Positioned close to the switching devices, it effectively suppresses voltage spikes and high-frequency oscillations, maintains an efficient thermal path, and supports high-temperature operation. This enables Leapers to maximize the performance and efficiency of SiC devices while preserving a compact module layout and enhancing overall system stability.
In addition, the bare-die RC snubber is fully compatible with Leapers’ existing assembly and testing processes, ensuring predictable electrical performance and seamless integration into volume production.
