Heavy rain in Malaysia! Two factories of Japanese crystal oscillator NDK were flooded and shut down

Dec 22,2021

On December 22, due to the recent continuous heavy rain in Malaysia, the two local factories of Nihon Dempa Kogyo (NDK), a global quartz component manufacturer, were flooded and suspended, and it is estimated that it will take some time to resume work.

On December 20, NDK issued a notice regarding the flooding of factories caused by heavy rains in Malaysia, stating that due to continuous heavy rains in Malaysia, as of December 18, two factories in Selangor were flooded and suspended.

NDK pointed out that the objects of the suspension due to flooding are its subsidiaries "Asian NDK Crystal SDN.BHD. (hereinafter referred to as ANCSB)" and "NDK Quartz Malaysia SDN.BHD. (hereinafter referred to as NQMSB)". Pumping and recovery operations are carried out, but due to the flooding of a large number of production lines, it is expected that it will take some time for production to resume.

NDK pointed out that ANCSB is engaged in the manufacture and sales of quartz components such as automotive and civilian quartz oscillators, accounting for about 10% of NDK's overall production; NQMSB mainly supplies quartz raw materials (accounting for about 20% of NDK's overall production) for use by group production companies.

NDK said that the impact of the shutdown on performance is currently under investigation.

It is reported that Nippon Denpa Kogyo Co., Ltd. was established in April 1948. It is a manufacturer specializing in the business of crystal components. Its main products include artificial crystals, optical crystal devices, and crystal oscillators.
