MediaTek takes the lead in realizing the live demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 technology: high speed + low latency

Jan 20,2022

On January 19, MediaTek announced that it was the first to successfully complete a live demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 technology. The upcoming MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity platform has outstanding performance, and also brought two Wi-Fi 7 technology demonstrations. Fully demonstrate high-speed and low-latency transmission performance.

Xu Haojun, deputy general manager of MediaTek and general manager of the Smart Connectivity Division, said: "The launch of Wi-Fi 7 marks that Wi-Fi can truly replace high-bandwidth wired/Ethernet technology. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 technology will be used for home and commercial use It provides powerful core network capabilities for multi-person AR/VR applications, cloud gaming, 4K video calling and 8K streaming media and other applications."

MediaTek has verified that its Filogic Wi-Fi 7 technology can reach peak speeds as defined by IEEE 802.11be. It also demonstrated Multi-Link Operation (MLO) technology, which can aggregate multiple channels on different frequency bands simultaneously, allowing data to be transmitted seamlessly even if the frequency band is interfered or congested, resulting in a faster and more reliable network connectivity, which is critical for applications such as video streaming and gaming that require constant, sustained, and real-time throughput.

"Faster broadband network access, higher-resolution video streaming applications, and VR gaming are driving market demand for Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7," said Mario Morales, vice president of Worldwide Semiconductor Research at IDC. Demand. Wi-Fi 7 enhances bandwidth, QAM, and new features such as multi-link operation (MLO), which are useful for vertical industry devices such as flagship smartphones, PCs, consumer electronics, retail and industrial. Big appeal, and service providers can start deploying more broadly in these segments.”

Moon Ho Lee, President of Mercury Korea, said, "Consumers today expect constant online, reliable and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity for applications such as video calling, 4K/8K TV entertainment, and real-time gaming. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 The technology can meet all the current application needs of consumers, and it also opens the door to future applications such as AR/VR that we cannot yet imagine.”

Wi-Fi 7 brings brand new capabilities to all available Wi-Fi spectrum, including 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz. Wi-Fi 7 can pass 320MHz channel and 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technology, and the transmission speed is 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 under the condition of using the same number of antennas. Important features of Wi-Fi 7 also include MLO technology to reduce latency by transmitting data on multiple Wi-Fi frequency bands, and multi-user resource unit (MRU) capabilities to reduce and avoid signal interference.

MediaTek has been actively involved in research and development since the birth of the Wi-Fi 7 standard and is one of the first companies to adopt the technology, and its products using Wi-Fi 7 technology are expected to be available in 2023.
