The sales volume of PC market is sluggish and the performance is lower than expected? AMD shares plummeted nearly 14%

A few days ago, semiconductor chip stocks in the United States fell sharply across the board, with the IT sector where chip stocks are located falling by more than 4%, and AMD in chip stocks plummeted by nearly 14%.

According to AMD's preliminary financial results in the third quarter, AMD's revenue in the third quarter is expected to be about 5.6 billion US dollars (about 39.8 billion yuan), up 29% year on year. However, this performance was far lower than previously expected. AMD previously said that its revenue in Q3 was expected to grow by about 55% year on year.

AMD pointed out the reasons for the decline in performance: "The macro economic contraction led to the lower than expected sales of traditional PC consumer market, and with a large amount of inventory in the supply chain, the overall enthusiasm for installing computers in the market was not high, resulting in a significant reduction in processor shipments."

The report also pointed out that due to the weaker than expected PC market and the overstock of inventory in the supply chain, the company's processor shipments decreased significantly, and the revenue of the individual user (Client) department was lower than expected, down 53% month on month and 40% year on year.

Previously, before the release of the report, AMD had expected to bring in a revenue of $6.7 billion, but mainly due to the decline in the sales of desktop computers and laptop CPUs, the revenue would decrease by $1.1 billion compared with the expectation, and currently it is $5.6 billion.

It is reported that the report of Canalys, a market research organization, shows that the U.S. economy is facing an imminent recession and high inflation, which caused the shipment volume of the U.S. PC market in the second quarter of this year to drop by more than 20% year on year.
