Infineon Expands OptiMOS™ 7 Family with New 25 V and 40 V Power MOSFETs Optimized for Specific Applications

Sep 26,2025

The growing demand for high-power applications across industries continues to drive unprecedented requirements for power density, efficiency, and reliability in power electronics. Discrete power MOSFETs remain essential in meeting these challenges. By adopting an application-focused approach, Infineon Technologies AG has further advanced this technology. On September 26, 2025, the company announced the launch of its new OptiMOS™ 7 power MOSFET family for industrial and consumer markets, extending the existing OptiMOS 7 portfolio for automotive applications. The new series is designed to deliver tailored solutions for distinct use cases, offering devices optimized for switching applications, motor drives, and designs requiring exceptionally low on-resistance (RDS(on)).

OptiMOS 7 25 V – Optimized for Switching
The OptiMOS 7 25 V devices go beyond a “one-size-fits-all” concept, delivering MOSFETs specifically tuned for switching applications. Key target applications include intermediate bus converters (IBC) for 48 V to core AI power supplies and switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) for telecom and traditional servers. The portfolio offers two technology variants: one optimized for hard-switching topologies and another for soft-switching. Devices tailored for hard-switching applications achieve excellent Miller behavior, figure of merit (FOM), and RDS(on)10, while the soft-switching variants deliver ultra-low RDS(on)45 and outstanding FOMQg. Compared with the OptiMOS™ 5 25 V generation, the new devices feature up to 20% lower RDS(on) and a 25% improvement in FOM, depending on the optimization type.

OptiMOS 7 40 V – Optimized for Motor Drives
The OptiMOS 7 40 V family is specifically designed for motor drive applications. These MOSFETs deliver lower RDS(on), optimized gate characteristics, enhanced noise immunity, and a threefold improvement in the safe operating area (SOA) compared to previous generations. With reduced transconductance, the devices achieve better current distribution, lower voltage overshoot, and improved performance under demanding operating conditions. They are ideally suited for motor drives, power tools, and garden equipment, offering superior reliability, efficiency, and power density.

Availability
The OptiMOS 7 25 V devices are optimized for switching behavior and are available in a source-down PQFN 3.3 x 3.3 package. Options include bottom- and dual-side cooled versions, as well as a central-gate layout that enables flexible and efficient PCB design.
