Infineon Technologies AG Finalizes Acquisition of Marvell’s Automotive Ethernet Business

Aug 15,2025

On August 14, Infineon Technologies AG successfully completed the acquisition of the Automotive Ethernet business from Marvell Technology, Inc., a deal first announced in April 2025 and now cleared by all required regulatory authorities. This strategic move strengthens Infineon’s system expertise in software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and further solidifies its leadership in microcontrollers for automotive applications.

Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon, stated:
"This acquisition significantly reinforces our leadership in automotive semiconductors and aligns perfectly with our profitable growth strategy. By expanding our product portfolio, we are working closely with customers and partners to accelerate the transition toward software-defined vehicles. Additionally, the deal opens up exciting opportunities in emerging fields such as humanoid robotics. We are delighted to welcome hundreds of highly skilled and motivated employees to Infineon and look forward to advancing Ethernet technology to new heights."

Ethernet technology plays a critical role in enabling low-latency, high-bandwidth communications, ensuring fast and reliable data transfer between microcontrollers, processors, sensors, and other components. This is essential for SDVs and offers significant potential in other advanced applications like humanoid robotics. By combining Marvell’s automotive Ethernet product portfolio with Infineon’s microcontroller and system expertise, the company will be able to deliver more comprehensive solutions to its customers.

Matt Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Marvell, commented:
"We are extremely proud of our team’s achievements in building a world-class automotive Ethernet business. Through relentless innovation and deep collaboration with the automotive industry, they have become leaders in this critical technology. Infineon’s scale, breadth of product portfolio, and customer reach make it the ideal company to take this business to the next level. We are confident this acquisition will unlock exciting growth opportunities for Marvell and allow our talented team to thrive as part of Infineon."

Marvell’s Brightlane™ Automotive Ethernet portfolio includes PHY transceivers, switches, and bridges, supporting data rates from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps while ensuring robust network security for current and future in-vehicle networks. Ethernet connectivity is a backbone technology for the electronic and electrical architectures that power SDVs.

The acquired business is projected to generate approximately $225–$250 million in revenue in 2025, with a gross margin of about 60%, and has around $4 billion in design wins expected by 2030. The transaction, valued at $2.5 billion, was funded through a combination of Infineon’s existing liquidity and additional debt financing secured from banks.

Going forward, Infineon plans to expand the newly acquired Ethernet business, accelerate innovation, and deliver greater value to customers. The entire Ethernet team will be integrated into Infineon’s Automotive division under a newly established “Ethernet Solutions” business line. This acquisition also strengthens Infineon’s already significant presence in the United States, particularly in R&D activities.
