Melexis Introduces MLX92211 IMC Integrated Magnetic Sensor for Compact Automotive Motor Modules

The automotive industry is increasingly demanding smaller, thinner motor modules that do not compromise on robustness or diagnostic performance. This need is especially critical in seat actuator systems, where multiple motors must be integrated into compact assemblies without sacrificing adjustability, comfort, or safety. OEMs continue to face pressure to maximize cabin space, reduce vehicle weight, and support automated manufacturing while enhancing functionality. Similar constraints apply to other vehicle systems, such as sunroofs and thermal valves, where reducing module height and ensuring compatibility with surface-mount technology (SMT) enable sleeker mechanical designs and greater integration flexibility.
The Melexis MLX92211 IMC integrated magnetic concentrator (IMC) sensor directly addresses these requirements. Offered in a TSOT-3L surface-mount device (SMD) package, it supports lateral magnetic sensing without the need for through-hole components, making it fully compatible with modern automated assembly processes. The result is reduced motor height, enhanced packaging flexibility, and streamlined manufacturing.
Built on the proven MLX92211 platform, the new IMC variant provides optimized lateral sensing capabilities. This single-package solution integrates a voltage regulator (operating from 2.7V to 24V), a Hall-effect sensor with advanced offset cancellation, and an open-drain output driver. Its magnetically enhanced offset cancellation system ensures faster, more precise, and stable performance, immune to temperature fluctuations and mechanical stress. Additionally, its negative temperature coefficient compensates for the natural degradation of magnets at high temperatures.
The robust latching sensor supports both three-wire and two-wire configurations (the latter requiring an external resistor). With a 30mA current limit, it reliably supports seat motors and similar applications that typically draw up to 25mA continuously. The MLX92211 IMC also provides strong ESD protection (8kV), automatic output shutdown with self-recovery, and ASIL A functional safety compliance—meeting stringent automotive reliability standards.
Minko Daskalov, Product Line Manager at Melexis, commented: “The MLX92211 IMC is a direct response to the automotive sector’s demand for compact, application-optimized motor latching sensors. By delivering robust and cost-efficient lateral magnetic sensing, it enables engineers to reduce actuator height, improve motor integration in tight spaces, and maintain the performance and protection levels expected in modern automotive environments.”
Designed for seat adjustment systems, window and sunroof controls, electric doors, and expansion valves, the MLX92211 IMC empowers the development of smaller, safer, and more efficient motor and actuator assemblies. Its SMT compatibility ensures seamless integration into automated production lines, making it an ideal fit for next-generation automotive applications.
