NXP to Relocate Historic Hamburg Operations to a New State-of-the-Art Facility in Bahrenfeld

Sep 05,2025

NXP Semiconductors, with more than a century of history in Lokstedt, has announced plans to relocate its Hamburg operations to a new facility on Tasköprüstraße in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. The future site will be designed around the specific needs of NXP’s 800+ Hamburg employees and will serve as a central hub for research and development, testing, marketing, and corporate functions across the company’s automotive, industrial, and IoT businesses.

The new building will also host NXP’s Centers of Competence, including SoC security, edge AI, system innovations for automation, robotics and healthcare, as well as a terahertz lab focused on mobile communications and automotive radar technologies.

Located adjacent to Hamburg’s Science City, the new headquarters is set to strengthen both the city’s and the global high-tech ecosystem. Designed in a timeless architectural style, the facility will meet advanced sustainability standards and promote interdisciplinary collaboration, while fostering closer connections among team members in a hybrid working environment.

The project is being developed by Hamburg-based real estate group Captiva, which is transforming the former wholesale market site into a modern corporate campus. AUG. PRIEN Projektentwicklung will lead construction and subsequently lease the new facility to NXP. CBRE GmbH advised NXP throughout the transaction. Move-in is targeted for early 2031.

Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of Hamburg, welcomed the announcement:
“NXP is a key driver of innovation in Hamburg, advancing quantum computing and other cutting-edge technologies. The future Science City in Bahrenfeld provides ideal conditions for developing breakthrough technologies and products, with world-class research institutions such as DESY and X-FEL, a thriving startup scene, and an attractive urban environment. I wish the company every success with the relocation and its future growth.”

Lars Reger, NXP’s Chief Technology Officer, added:
“This move reflects our vision to create a people-centric workplace that fosters inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation. It also demonstrates our commitment to supporting Hamburg as a vital hub for future technologies and the broader European high-tech ecosystem. We are excited to continue our journey here in Hamburg and grateful for the support we have received.”
