TDK Expands TFM201612BLEA Series of Thin-Film Power Inductors for Automotive Applications with 5.6A Rated Current Models

TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) announced the expansion of its TFM201612BLEA series of thin-film power inductors, specifically designed for automotive power circuits. The latest additions include two new models with inductance values of 0.33 µH and 0.47 µH, each rated for currents up to 5.6 A. These new components, measuring just 2.0 x 1.6 x 1.2 mm (L x W x H), are scheduled for mass production starting July 2025.

As electric vehicles (EVs) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) become increasingly prevalent, the demand for compact, high-efficiency inductors suitable for automotive power circuits continues to rise. Power circuits in vehicles require components that can support higher current without compromising on space or thermal reliability. In this context, energy efficiency and miniaturization are key performance criteria.

Compared to previous models in the same size category—such as the TFM-ALMA series—the new 0.47 µH version delivers a 16% increase in rated current, now supporting up to 5.6 A, while achieving a 31% reduction in DC resistance (as low as 22 mΩ). These improvements significantly reduce power loss and improve overall system efficiency, all while maintaining the same compact footprint.

In addition to its compactness and electrical performance, the new TFM201612BLEA inductors are engineered for automotive reliability, with a maximum operating temperature of +150°C, ensuring dependable performance even under harsh thermal conditions within engine control units (ECUs) and other onboard environments.
