Texas Instruments Brings New 300-mm Semiconductor Fab in Sherman, Texas, into Production

Texas Instruments (TI) has announced that its newest semiconductor fabrication facility in Sherman, Texas, has officially begun operations, just three and a half years after construction started. TI executives joined local and state officials to mark the opening of this advanced 300-mm wafer fab, located in North Texas.
The new facility, known as SM1, will ramp production in line with customer demand and is expected to ultimately manufacture tens of millions of chips per day. These semiconductors are used across a vast range of applications, including smartphones, automotive systems, life-saving medical equipment, industrial robotics, smart home devices, and data center infrastructure.
Why this matters
As the largest manufacturer of foundational semiconductors in the United States, Texas Instruments plays a critical role in supplying analog and embedded processing chips that underpin nearly all modern electronic systems. With electronics becoming increasingly embedded in everyday life, TI continues to expand its 300-mm manufacturing footprint, building on nearly a century of innovation. By owning and controlling its fabrication, process technology, and packaging capabilities, TI strengthens supply chain resilience and ensures long-term support for customers across varying market conditions.
Haviv Ilan, President and CEO of Texas Instruments, commented that the start of production at the Sherman fab highlights TI’s core strength: end-to-end control of manufacturing to deliver essential semiconductors used in virtually every electronic system. As the leading U.S. producer of analog and embedded processing devices, TI is uniquely positioned to provide reliable, large-scale 300-mm manufacturing capacity. He also noted TI’s deep roots in North Texas and expressed confidence that the company’s technology will continue to enable future innovations.
The Sherman mega-site is designed to eventually house up to four interconnected wafer fabs, which will be constructed and equipped in phases based on market demand. Once fully developed, the site is expected to create up to 3,000 direct jobs and support several thousand additional positions across the surrounding ecosystem.
TI’s investment in the Sherman facility is part of a broader capital expansion plan, under which the company intends to invest more than $60 billion across seven semiconductor fabs in Texas and Utah—representing the largest investment in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history. With 15 manufacturing sites worldwide, TI leverages decades of proven in-house manufacturing expertise to maintain strong supply chain control and reliably deliver the products its customers depend on.
