TI Invests in Melaka with New High-Tech Facility to Power Future Semiconductor Growth

Nov 18,2025

Texas Instruments (TI), a global leader in analog and embedded processing semiconductors, has officially opened TIEM2, its newest state-of-the-art assembly and test facility in Melaka. TI, known worldwide for designing, manufacturing and selling analog and embedded chips, has equipped the new site with highly advanced, automated production technologies. The facility is capable of finely calibrating, probing, assembling and testing billions of semiconductors annually—components essential to virtually every modern electronic system, from automotive and mobile devices to data centers.

Spanning more than 900,000 square feet and rising six stories, TIEM2 is now fully operational and physically connected to TI’s existing Melaka assembly and test site. Together, the two facilities now form a combined manufacturing footprint of over 1.4 million square feet, where processed semiconductor wafers are transformed into finished integrated circuits.

TI’s expansion in Melaka represents a potential investment of up to MYR 5 billion, enabling step-by-step capacity growth to meet rising global demand for the company’s analog and embedded products. Once the new facility is fully ramped, the project is expected to create up to 500 new local jobs. The investment also reinforces TI’s long-term strategy to internalize 90% of its assembly and test operations by 2030, strengthening the company’s manufacturing control and end-to-end supply chain resilience.

Celebrating a Milestone for Malaysia’s Manufacturing Sector

To mark the grand opening, TI welcomed Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Yusoh and other government officials for a tour of the new factory.

“The investment made by Texas Instruments in Melaka demonstrates strong confidence in our state’s development potential,” said Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh. “Once fully operational, this facility will generate hundreds of high-quality job opportunities for our people, further accelerating industrial progress and solidifying Melaka’s role as a key contributor to Malaysia’s economic and technological advancement.”

TI has a long history of operating a robust, regionally diversified internal manufacturing infrastructure. The company runs 15 production sites worldwide, including wafer fabs, assembly and test facilities, and bump and probe operations. The integration of two advanced Melaka sites with TI’s established presence in Kuala Lumpur enhances operational efficiency and scale, allowing the company to serve customers around the world more effectively.

Subha Rao, Vice President and General Manager of Texas Instruments Malaysia, commented, “For more than five decades, TI has grown alongside Malaysia. This new facility showcases the strength, expertise and dedication of our teams here. Our expanded footprint in Melaka strengthens TI’s internal manufacturing capabilities and ensures we can deliver products reliably, anywhere our customers need them.”

More Than 50 Years in Malaysia

Since opening its first Malaysian facility in Selangor in 1972, Texas Instruments has maintained deep and longstanding roots in the country. Today, TI operates advanced back-end manufacturing facilities in both Melaka and Kuala Lumpur. These back-end operations—critical to TI's manufacturing strategy—have undergone continuous modernization, expansion and automation to support evolving customer requirements.

TIEM2 is also designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, one of the highest global standards for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings. Its advanced equipment is engineered to reduce waste, water usage and energy consumption per chip, reinforcing TI’s commitment to responsible, environmentally conscious manufacturing.
